Last year, Florida State Park Foundation’s grassroots supporters helped them reach their goal of planting 100,000 longleaf pine seedlings across the state of Florida. The Foundation was so overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, that they decided to double down on their efforts and plant another 100,000 longleaf pines by next Earth Day — April 22, 2022.
Although the project started off strong, online contributions have slowed down in the past few months. Now, the Foundation is behind where they need to be to hit their goal on time.
Longleaf pines are an essential part of Florida’s ecosystem, but they’ve become endangered in recent years. If Florida State Parks Foundation can succeed in planting another 100,000 longleaf pines, it will get them one step closer to restoring this important plant’s population.
