On June 23 at 6 p.m., Nick (an experienced horticulturalist and head landscape designer of Bluebird Growers) will go over the basics of edible gardening: soil amendment, plant selection, and cultivation of your very own home garden. This fun and informative workshop will have you leaving with a locally-crafted tiny raised garden bed from Jax Woodcrafters fully planted with locally sourced plants!
But that’s not all! While you’re there, learn all about the magical creatures (worms) that turn food scraps and other green waste into nutrient-rich compost. Nick will teach you all about vermiculture AKA: worm composting – Vermicomposting, or worm composting, turns kitchen scraps and other green waste into a rich, dark soil by using earth worms called Red Wigglers. While you’re hands are dirty building your own garden planter and learning all about composting enjoy some local beers and snacks with friends.
The event will be held at The Heirloom Yard, 20 S. 10th Street in Fernandina Beach, Open to all ages and the cost is $125 per person. Fore more information visit www.theheirloomyard.com.
