The Nassau Bird Club will be holding a field trip this Saturday morning, April 30, at 8 a.m. The group, led by Bill George, will meet initially at the Bailey Rd Soccer Field parking lot. The plan is to bird around the soccer fields and then move vehicles to the Crane Island Park. Nassau Bird Club member Theresa Hartz scouted the area recently and found some colorful birds that are not normally seen, such as Summer Tanager and Orchard Orioles.
Participants should also see herons, gulls, terns and shorebirds from the boardwalk along the Amelia River. While Warbler migration has been pushed west by a high-pressure system, members and guests will most likely see birds that are residents here, like Painted Buntings. Please bring water, sun screen, bug lotion and appropriate wear for the weather. The group will provide a scope for viewing at the river so just bring binoculars.
