A pair of veterans, both doctors, with a pair of kids, are perfectly paired with their beautiful home in Oyster Bay Harbour. Drs. Gaelyn and Chris Scuderi, who met in Newport, Rhode Island during their service in the U.S. Navy, graduated from medical school and came to Florida’s First Coast when they received orders for Naval Station Mayport in 2004.

“When we were living in Jacksonville, we’d always come to Amelia Island for day trips,” Gaelyn remembers. “We loved the small, family-town feeling, and its location at the beach. As the kids were starting school, we decided to relocate permanently and look for our forever home.” The couple explored the area, eventually finding Oyster Bay through the recommendation of a friend. “We fell in love with the nature, oak trees, and marsh views.”

Shortly after purchasing a lot, the couple partnered with Lendry Homes to plan and build their custom house. “We wanted a coastal, contemporary style, something airy and bright with natural elegance, but casual enough to walk around barefoot,” says Gaelyn. As she worked with the builders at Lendry, she was introduced to Tiffany Hinton, designer and founder of Lola Interiors and co-owner of Cape House.

“The Scuderis enlisted help early,” says Tiffany. “Projects turn out best when designers can work with the architects, builders, and clients from the beginning.” For Gaelyn and Chris, this meant they had someone to consult with during the home design process, helping them to include some features they really wanted in the home. For the teams executing the plan, this meant that everyone could work together on what was important to the Scuderis.

“Durability and livability were essential,” says Tiffany. “We worked hard to stay focused on a classic style that will not age, enabling this residence to be the Scuderis forever home and a great place to raise their children.”

“We envisioned an open concept kitchen and a living space with a fireplace, built-ins, and coquina inside, and Tiffany took it from there, bringing every selection, tile, paint, and furniture element together seamlessly,” say Gaelyn and Chris.

“Gaelyn’s taste is charming – well-dressed, polished and put together, with a strong sense of style,” says Tiffany. “We design for all styles, but since her style is similar to ours, this was a fun partnership.” The attention to detail was strong, as seen in the master bath, where his and her countertops are on separate levels to create separation in a shared space.

Once the home was complete, the couple decided to finish their bonus room as a multi-purpose area consisting of an office/study and family hangout, which can also triple as sleeping quarters for guests.

“The space had to serve a lot of purposes, but still be beautiful,” says Tiffany. “Gaelyn brought one of her favorite skirts to the initial meeting, and that pattern set the tone for everything. The result is fun, with a punch of color, bright wallpaper, and matching fabric, and custom cabinetry by Floridan Design.”

The couple was thrilled and adores having a room for Legos, a closet for craft supplies, and designated square-footage for their St. Michael Academy students to work on their homework.

Today, Gaelyn is a radiologist at Ackerman Cancer Center and Chris specializes in family medicine with UF Health Family Medicine and Pediatrics and is Medical Director at the New Berlin practice. The family loves the Oyster Bay Yacht Club, fishing from the dock, going for a jog under the canopy of oak trees, and many days, just hanging out as a family, floating in their pool.
