Ben Byrnes Runway Rally on January 26

Jan 21, 2019 10:00AM
Registration is open for the sixth annual Ben Byrns 5K Runway Rally and fun run, which will be held January 26 at the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport.

The goal is to raise funds to help prevent drug and alcohol abuse among Nassau County youth by offering services not currently funded in Nassau Alcohol Crime Drug Abatement Coalition contracts, providing services for residents who may need mental health, co-occurring and/or substance abuse outpatient treatment.

The race is the island’s only running event held entirely on the taxiways and runways of the airport. The 5K race starts at 9 a.m., with a one-mile fun run for kids and walkers immediately following the end of the 5K. The 5K race is not an official chip-timed race.

Participants may register online at, download registration applications at or pick up registration forms at Current Running, 815 S. Eighth St., in Fernandina Beach. For students, registration forms are provided at each school. To receive a form, email [email protected] or call (904) 277-3699.

Show your school spirit in the Nassau County School Challenge. There will be three categories; each category is competing against schools in that particular category. Each team competes against schools in that category for cash prizes for the best overall getting the prized Ben Byrns trophy for a year. The challenge is open to all school students and faculty this year from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Winners in the male and female categories for best overall and masters (age 40-plus) will each receive an award. For information regarding the Ben Byrns 5K Runway Rally or fun run or to make a donation to NACDAC, visit, email [email protected] or call (904) 277-3699.
