Brown Bag Lunch on September 5

Aug 30, 2018 02:00AM
The Amelia Island Museum of History invites you to its monthly Brown bag Lunch on Wednesday, September 5 at noon. Special guest, Dave Roeser, will deliver a presentation in honor of the 120 year anniversary of the commencement of the Spanish-American War. When the USS Maine sank just off the coast of Cuba on February 15th, 1898, long-simmering tensions between the United States and Spain boiled over into open hostilities. By April 21st, the U.S. Navy was blockading Cuba, and by June 22nd, the U.S. Army had landed on the island.

This short but important conflict helped secure Cuban Independence from Spain and had in indelible impact on American History at the turn of the 20th century. Join us as we discuss the Spanish-American War, and explore Amelia Island's role in this fascinating episode of American History. This program is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come/first-served. For more information contact Joshua Whitfield at 261-7378 ext 102, or [email protected] The Amelia Island Museum of History is located at 233 South 3rd St.
