Fascinating Lives with Diann Schindler

Jul 16, 2018 02:00AM
What could have motivated Diann Schindler to leave her home on Amelia Island, give up almost all of her earthly possessions, and become a nomad to travel to all corners of the globe? Those who know Diann will surely want to find out, and those who don't are in for a great story! Diann will appear at Story & Song Bookstore Bistro on July 18 at 3 p.m. to tell her story.

Following a career of over 25 years in higher education, Dr. Diann Schindler retired and began dabbling in tennis, music, and writing. However, her lifelong dream of traveling the world consumed her until she could no longer resist. In January of 2015, after selling her house, her car, and all her possessions, save her guitar, tennis racket and a few pieces of clothing, she began her solo journey of traveling the world.

Sixteen months later (June 2016), she published her first novel, “Just A Girl,” and it quickly rose to Amazon’s “sixth best coming-of-age fiction in 2107.” When asked about writing “Just A Girl,” Schindler said, “It was an excruciating and exhilarating experience and I can’t wait to do it again!”

And, do it again, she did. At the urging of her friends, she forged ahead with a nonfiction book, “The Essential Guide to a Life of Travel: the ABC’s International Travel.” Her two years of traveling in over 30 countries, was the basis for this comprehensive manual.
