Amelia Islander

Become a zookeeper!

Jul 09, 2018 02:00AM
Amelia Island Residents in Action for the Symphony (ARIAS) sponsors a program each January and February that visits all fourth grade classes in Nassau County with 40-orchestral instruments. The goal of the program is to acquaint students with how to properly hold and play each musical instrument. To be able to reach all Nassau County students, ARIAS needs volunteer “zookeepers.” Noe experience is required. For more information about becoming a volunteer contact Susan Kosciulek at (904) 548-0227 or Barbara Zacheis at (904) 321-5639.

ARIAS’ primary goals are to bring the Jacksonville Symphony to Amelia Island, to encourage Nassau residents to attend symphony concerts and to provide music education to children in Nassau County Schools through Jacksonville Symphony performances and Instrument Zoo. ARIAS also sponsors a music scholarship program.  ARIAS hosts an annual “Let Freedom Ring” Memorial Day weekend concert, as well as Amelia Nights at the Symphony, which include dinner, transportation, and concert.

ARIAS’ music education programs continue to be very successful. Hundreds of Nassau County students experience various ensembles of JSO musicians in their schools. The ARIAS Instrument Zoo has been enthusiastically received by numerous fourth grade elementary school students and its outreach also includes scholarships for students at the Amelia Arts Academy.

To find out more about ARIAS membership, contact Susanne Brisach at (904) 261-0105, or email [email protected].
