Christmas on Amelia Island

Nov 29, 2017 02:00AM
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on Amelia Island! The leftover Thanksgiving turkey has long been consumed, the tree lighting ceremonies have been held, and the downtown merchants have kicked off the shopping season with their annual pajama party sale. Look around the island and you will see historic bed and breakfast inns decorated with garlands and greenery. The Salvation Army volunteers are ringing their bells, children are trying their best to be as good as possible, and local businesses are bustling with cheerful shoppers. Churches are preparing for their pageants and special services, and Amelia Islanders are doing what they do best – enjoying their beautiful island paradise. Amelia Island residents celebrate the season in so many ways. Some spend Christmas volunteering for Joy to the Children. Others spend the day on the water. Others sing in the church choir. Many spend Christmas working at our fine resorts, our community hospital, and our local grocery stores. And no matter how busy our holidays are, we always find time for our families and friends. It is a joyous season, a time to reflect on everything that is good in the world, and to appreciate our many blessings.
