Calling All Musicians!

Sep 04, 2017 02:00AM
Nassau Community Band holds its rehearsals on Thursdays in the Yulee Middle School band room. Downbeat is at 6 p.m. and rehearsal concludes at 7:30 pm. Chairs and music stands are provided. Interested musicians are welcome to sit in on a rehearsal. Band Librarians will issue a music folder once dues are paid and attendance at three rehearsals is documented.

Created in 2004 as the New Horizons Band, a group of adults connected with the Amelia Arts Academy started rehearsing at the Peck Community Center. With a seasonal membership of 20 musicians, the group quickly became known for offering free concerts and a relaxed rehearsal experience for persons reuniting with their instruments.

The closing of the Amelia Arts Academy resulted in the restructuring of the group and the Nassau Community Band was born in 2012. A membership roster of 40 full-time residents included: music educators, college students, and folks who love playing their horn. Now a multi-generational ensemble, the group is recognized for a repertoire of classics, pops, marches, audience sing-a-longs, and movie medleys.
