The Pointe Restaurant at Elizabeth Pointe

The Pointe Restaurant, located at Elizabeth Pointe, offers indoor and outdoor seating with one of the most spectacular ocean views on Amelia Island. Purchased by the Dunlop family two-and-a-half years ago, Elizabeth Pointe features glorious wraparound porches and refined Southern hospitality. Jim and Gay Dunlop have previously owned two inns, and for the purchase of Elizabeth Pointe, they partnered with their son, Brandon. I was recently invited to join Marketing Director Tarah Dunlop at The Pointe Restaurant for breakfast one morning, and we had the best seat in the house, a lovely table on the porch overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, with a fresh mug of coffee in hand. The Pointe Restaurant serves an upscale breakfast buffet every day from 7 to 10 a.m. that is open to the public as well as to their private guests. They also serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and offer a monthly Sunday brunch that features two special entrée selections in addition to their regular offerings. When I joined Tarah for breakfast that morning, Chefs de Cuisine Rudy Smith and Mustafa Ba were at the helm, cooking up some amazing breakfast fare. Everything is made from scratch at The Pointe Restaurant, including their remarkable Chocolate Cappuccino Muffins and Orange Blossom Scones, which were superbly baked and a nice start to our breakfast. The Chefs cook eggs and omelets to order each morning, but we decided to pass on eggs in order to sample their buffet items. I love real, homemade biscuits with sausage gravy, and The Pointe’s are so rich and dreamy I nearly had two! I also had a side of roasted potatoes, which were beautifully seasoned, hot and golden brown, and a spoonful of their succulent grits, cooked in true Southern style. We also enjoyed a side of crispy sausage and bacon, along with a plate of fresh fruit and orange juice. Quite a filling and delicious breakfast, yet there were so many more items on the buffet. Besides eggs to order, the chefs make French toast and pancakes, yogurt parfaits, and of course, cereal, oatmeal, and a variety of juices and teas are always available. Add a mimosa, and your morning is off to a great start at The Pointe Restaurant! A few days after my luxurious breakfast at Elizabeth Pointe I stopped in for lunch on my way to an appointment. Hankering for something hearty, I ordered the roasted beef sandwich, which was made with rosemary-infused in-house roasted beef, served with spicy horseradish aioli and melted provolone on a fresh-from-the-oven Kaiser roll. The beef was tender and paired perfectly with the cheese and horseradish sauce. The sandwich was served with a side of homemade potato salad, better than any I have made at home. Relaxing in a rocking chair after lunch on the inn’s expansive porch and enjoying the ocean views with a glass of sweet tea, it was easy to see why Elizabeth Pointe received the 2017 Conde Nast Best Service Award and is featured as one of Southern Living Magazine’s Great Inns of the South!
