Brown Bag Lunch with Dave Roeser

Jul 03, 2017 02:00AM
The Amelia Island Museum of History invites guests to its next Brown Bag Lunch on Wednesday, July 5 at noon. Special guest Dave Roeser will deliver a presentation on the First World War, in honor of the 100 year anniversary of the United States entering the fray. The assassination of Duke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 propelled the world into the deadliest conflict in human history up to that point. Technological sophistication and the introduction of chemical weapons and trench warfare resulted in the death of approximately 11 million military combatants and 7 million civilians over four grueling years of warfare - involving 32 countries.

Urged by President Wilson, Congress declared war on Germany on April 6, 1917, resulting in over 4.7 million American men and women joining the war effort via regular U.S. forces, National Guard units, and draft units. The program is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come/first-served - no reservations needed.
