Red Otter Outfitters
Jennie and Ben Stephens came up with the name for their lifestyle store during a visit to Cumberland Island, where they came across two otters while they were discussing leaving their comfortable lives in Atlanta to pursue their dream of living near the water and raising their children in a small town. “Otters are smart, playful, and active, which perfectly describes our customers,” says Jennie. “Adding the color red is a nod to Ben’s alma mater, the Georgia Bulldogs.” “Over the past 13 years, we have attracted a loyal following of locals, second home owners, and visitors,” says Jennie. “They are very active, enjoying kayaking, biking, and hiking, and traveling. Others are looking for quality footwear and apparel for their trips to the grocery store or dinner downtown.” Red Otter sources brands known for quality and durability, like Patagonia, The North Face, Sanctuary, Ex Officio, Merrell, Bella Dahl, Birkenstock, Southern Tide, Kuhl, and Chaco, along with Yeti coolers, Strongback chairs, Eyebobs, HydroFlask water bottles, and travel accessories. “Red Otter stocks a variety of gifts, including a selection of custom jewelry from designers Betsy Pittard and CC Designs, an Amelia Island local, and items like waterproof bluetooth speakers, dry bag coolers, or an ENO hammock,” says Jennie. “And we giftwrap!” Red Otter is located at 1012 Atlantic Avenue.
