Jerrie and Steve Sell opened Debonair, an upscale women’s handbag and jewelry store, in 2009, but surprisingly, the store was Steve’s idea. “My husband is a visionary,” says Jerrie. “He had done a lot of research and realized that no matter what was happening with the economy, women still purchased quality handbags.” The couple had lived in Fernandina Beach since 1999, when they built a home at the same time they were building Savannah Grande, an assisted living facility, which then was called Amelia Trace. “It was a busy time for us!” laughs Jerrie.

Today, Debonair is located on Centre Street, having moved there two years ago. “We love our new location,” says Jerrie. “The store has a modern look, and it showcases our products better.” Debonair’s latest fashions in handbags, jewelry, and gifts include brands like Brighton, Michael Kors, Brahmin, Hobo, Sondra Roberts, Remi & Reid, and Mariana. “We have something for every woman’s budget, with a variety of styles and price points.”

Jerrie’s daughter-in-law, Victoria, manages the store and its two employees, which is always bustling with shoppers, both locals and visitors alike. Jerrie credits their success to keeping up with the latest trends. “We shop in New York for our handbags and accessories,” notes Jerrie. “We always have something new! In fact, we’re coming out with a new line of travel purses and accessories.” For more information, visit Debonair at 114 Centre Street or call (904) 261-6993, or find them on Facebook.
