In 1980, Jim Marino was a physical therapist in Kansas City. His wife, Shay, was a registered nurse. The couple’s dream was to start their own practice, and, in 1989, they opened Nassau Physical Therapy (NPT) in Callahan. Six years later, they opened the Fernandina Beach office, and today NPT is the only locally owned and operated outpatient private practice in Nassau County. It’s “Your Hometown Team”. From adolescents to geriatrics, NPT’s patients receive treatment for acute, chronic, work and sport injuries, post-operative and neurological conditions, and general health and wellness. Jim and his staff provide compassionate care in a friendly environment. “Our goal is to get our patients back to the things they enjoy—work, school, athletics, family, family, recreational, and community activities,” says Jim. As part of their health and wellness programs, NPT offers Medical Exercise Training (MET), which includes an on-site gym to improve function and fitness under the guidance of a physical therapist. Many MET participants are former patients who continue their programs with professional supervision. “Individuals interested in increasing physical activity or wanting to begin or modify a fitness plan would benefit from our MET program,” says Jim. “One of our greatest assets is education. We teach our clients how to take responsibility for their own health and recovery, making movement and fitness part of their lifestyle. That’s the key to success.” For more information, call (904) 277-4449 or visit www.nassaupt.com.
