Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library Spring Book Sale Results

With the help of more than fifty volunteers, coordinated by Volunteer Chair Jody Mackle, the Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library was able to raise $12,408 from their annual Spring Book Sale! These funds will help to keep our library current with books, including large print and books on tape, software, periodicals, and all of the things that make our library the wonderful place it is today. The sale is the effort of many hands working for months toward our goal, starting with the group of volunteers, headed by Stephanie Brown, who all worked tirelessly sorting and categorizing the thousands of books generously donated by the readers in our community.
Setting up the Peck Center gymnasium in the hours before the sale can be a daunting task. Our task is made so much easier with the help of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office employees and trustees, who help us with the heavy lifting. Their work doesn’t stop with just the set-up of the sale, as they also return after the sale to assist us in breaking it all down and putting the Peck Center back in pristine order. They all have become an integral part of our operations and we thank them so much for their hard work.
We are so lucky to have a community, of all ages, with a generous spirit. Working along with our adult volunteers, we had a wonderful group of students from both the FBHS Interact Club and the National Honor Society. We thank Ms. Dawn Karpel and Dr. Max Klein for their efforts in helping to coordinate scheduling of the students for this sale. The students were a pleasure to work with and stayed until the floor was swept and we locked up the Peck Center late on Saturday afternoon.
Finally, we must thank St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center and Amelia Park HOA for lending their tables to us for a few days so we were able to display our many categories of books for sale. Our businesses in the community, Harris Teeter, Publix, Winn Dixie and WestRock, generously provide paper bags for our famous $10 bag sale on the last day of the sale and reusable recycling bins for us.
The book sale is a community event and a community effort! The Friends Of the Fernandina Beach Library thanks every single person who helped contribute to the success and we are looking forward to another successful sale in the Fall. Our November Book Sale, scheduled for November 10, 11, and 12, is even bigger than the Spring Sale and we look forward to seeing everyone there.
