A Hand to Hold Doula Service

Nov 09, 2015 11:10AM
A doula is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. Doula is a Greek word meaning ‘women’s servant,’ and doulas have been part of the childbirth process for centuries. After the birth of her two children, Rebecca McKinney decided to become a certified doula. “The doula’s purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience. I felt there was a real need for a doula to service women in Fernandina Beach.” Rebecca launched her new business, A Hand to Hold Doula Services, with lots of support from her husband, Matt, who felt being a doula was the perfect fit for Rebecca. “Women are very vulnerable when they are pregnant. There are so many questions and concerns,” says Rebecca. “If you are looking for a guide who can give you personalized one-on-one care beyond the medical issues, and do it on your schedule and as you need it throughout your pregnancy and beyond, then a doula is the solution.” “Whether you’re a first time mom who’s a bit overwhelmed and maybe a little scared, or a second-time mom who may have had complications the first time, I will help you find your way through the uncertainty of pregnancy,” states Rebecca. She also teaches classes on breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as general birthing classes. For more information, call (904) 624-4802 or visit
