About North Florida Land Trust

NFLT is committed to protecting and preserving the natural heritage of North Florida. The group works to ensure that these treasured lands will still be protected and enjoyed by future generations. North Florida Land Trust is a local land conservation organization focused on protecting ecologically, agriculturally, and historically significant lands. They have a core focus area in Northeast Florida, focusing on Nassau, Baker, Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Putnam and Flagler Counties, and work on an as-needed based elsewhere in North Florida.

NFLT achieves its mission primarily through the acquisition of conservation real estate. They hope for donations and pursue some properties for purchase, dependent on resources. Not solely interested in fee-acquisition of land, the group also deals with "less-than-fee" acquisitions of conservation easements. With a conservation easement, the property is still privately owned by the landowner, but is restricted in the property's development, an agreement held up by the land trust. Land acquired must be maintained, so the North Florida Land Trust also manages for habitat and wildlife, as well as seeks to restore degraded habitat areas. As a private not-for-profit NFLT survives on the giving of the community, both in cash donations and volunteering. Their contributions are an important piece in the achievement of our mission.
