Winona Beard was managing a hotel in Panama City when her father, Ira, asked her and her brother, Steve, to join him and their mother, Marian, in the women’s fashion business. Her father had formerly worked for Macy’s, and with his expertise and good business sense, their original St. Simons, Georgia clothing store had grown to four stores. Two of the stores, The Cloister Collection, are located on Sea Island and in Athens, Georgia. The other two, called Evelyne Talman, are located on St. Simons Island and Amelia Island. Today, Winona handles the financial aspect of the business, while her brother Steve is the buyer. “Our clothing is high-quality and made to last,” says Winona. “Most of our clients are local shoppers. Some of our brands include Lily Pulitzer, Nic and Zoe, and Joseph Ribkoff. Since its opening in 1975, Evelyne Talman has offered the ultimate in ladies’ fashions.” The store features unique collections of jewelry, handbags, and evening bags, as well as a wonderful selection of sportswear and evening separates. The store also offers distinctive customer service and singular personal attention. Because most of their customers are regular clients, the store features customer appreciation specials, like three percent back on all purchases, and exclusive discount cards. No matter what your age or fashion tastes, Evelyne Talman has something you simply can’t live without. The store is located at 4800 First Coast Highway, in the Harris Teeter Shopping Center.
