Fernandina Beach Designated Florida Main Street

Sep 25, 2015 02:00AM
Fernandina Beach has recently received the prestigious designation as an official Florida Main Street. Main Street is a technical assistance program administered by the Florida Bureau of Historic Preservation to revitalize and enhance the traditional historic commercial corridors. The program helps reenergize and stabilize the economy by enhancing the appearance and image of the downtown. The program promotes sensible, sustained economic growth and enhancements based on local assets. Being a Florida Main Street will enable Fernandina Beach to maintain a focus on downtown to create greater economic stability, revitalization, sustainability, vitality, and civic pride.

Economic revitalization provides jobs and business ownership opportunities for local residents, particularly youth who may otherwise leave the community in search of employment. The preservation of the distinctive downtown architecture is what makes Fernandina Beach unique, defining the community as “everyone’s neighborhood,” open and inclusive, enhancing residents’ quality of life.

The Fernandina Beach Main Street project is a partnership between the City of Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber of Commerce, and the Amelia Island Convention & Visitors Bureau, and is made possible by the generous support of local businesses and individuals.
