Island Falls Adventure Golf Celebrates 25 Years

Aug 10, 2015 08:57AM
Bob Tompkins worked as golf pro at Amelia Island Plantation for over five years before the Plantation’s financial problems caused him to be looking for a new job. His dream of owning his own golf course came to fruition when he and his father opened Island Falls Golf Adventures in June of 1990, a high-caliber miniature golf course that has become an Amelia Island icon. Sadly, Bob passed away two years ago; his wife Mary Lou, and son Ryan continue the legacy that Bob left behind at Island Falls, and this year they are celebrating their 25th year in business. “My husband designed this course himself – all 19 holes,” says Mary Lou. “And Bob still holds the course record – 36!”

Mary Lou is a teacher at Emma Love, but she takes care of all the paperwork and bookkeeping for Island Falls. Ryan runs the golf course with eight employees. “After 25 years, we have watched our customers grow up and have families of their own, and bring them to Island Falls,” says Mary Lou. She and Ryan are planning a special Bob Tompkins Memorial Golf Tournament in October, to celebrate their 25 year anniversary. For more information, call (904) 261-7881.
