Wild Amelia Festival Eco Nature Tours

Apr 17, 2015 02:00AM
The Wild Amelia Festival began as a group of naturalists, business owners, local residents, city, state and agency employees gathered together to showcase Amelia Island’s bioregion. As a group of nature minded citizens, the Festival coordinators educate residents and visitors about the local environment, and encourage stewardship of the area's natural resources through events and programs that entertain, while promoting a conservation ethic. This year’s Festival will be held May 15-17, and will include over two dozen Eco Nature Tours.

These tours are quite diverse, getting participants face to face with the "wild" side of the local area. By definition, ecotourism is “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people". It is all about connecting conservation, communities and sustainable travel. Wild Amelia Eco Nature Tours will educate participants about the local environment and the critters who share our island paradise. This year’s tours include Segway explorations, kayaking tours for adults and children, beach and barrier island walks, sandbar-hopping, sailing tours, sunsets on the Greenway, a nature cruise fundraiser, birding trips, bike rides on Talbot’s trail, yoga and SUP yoga, and even a special photo trip to the Jacksonville Zoo.
