Amelia Islander

Let Freedom Ring Concert

Apr 15, 2015 02:00AM
“Let Freedom Ring” is an annual Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra concert held on Amelia Island to kick off Memorial Day weekend. Guest conductor Sameer Patel has selected a program of orchestral variety and excitement, including Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever,” Gershwin’s “Strike Up the Band,” and Amelia Island’s favorite “Armed Forces Salute.” Also included are Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” music from “Victory at Sea,” and much more. Patel first conducted the JSO during the League of American Orchestras National Conductor Preview in 2013. Robert Quinby, a long time board member of ARIAS (Amelia Residents In Action for the Symphony) will open the program with the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner.”

The concert will be held at First Baptist Church on South 8th Street in Fernandina Beach, on Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and free for children 12 and under, an affordable price for a concert by an orchestra of the JSO’s stature. ARIAS encourages parents to take advantage of this wonderful family musical opportunity.

Advance tickets are available at The Book Loft, Front & Centre, the Golf Club of Amelia and the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. Tickets will also be available at the door beginning at 6:30 p.m. For information call (904) 321-4174.
