Island Chamber Singers Spring Concert
Mar 13, 2015 09:32AM
Accompanied by two pianists and five percussionists (using cymbals, triangles, tambourines, xylophones, glockenspiels and bells) and led by director Jane Lindberg, the singers will perform the famous piece by Carl Orff, a 20th century German composer and conductor. Orff used texts from medieval poetry that were originally performed by troubadours as they traveled around the villages in Europe.
The forty-member Island Chamber Singers, established in 2004, have a varied repertoire, including Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Fantasia in C Minor, Brahms’ How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place, Brubeck’s To Hope! A Celebration, Handel’s Coronation Anthems, Rutter’s Magnificat, and selections from Aaron Copland and Gilbert and Sullivan.
The concerts will take place at Amelia Plantation Chapel, 36 Bowman Road, Amelia Island, on Friday, April 17, at 7 pm and Sunday, April 19, at 3 pm. An opening night reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall immediately following Friday evening's performance.
