While visiting Amelia Island for a rare leisure day last year, Michael and Lynne Snaid came upon a vacant store on Centre Street. Soon they were meeting with the owner of the building, Don Shaw, about opening a new Cinnamon Bear Country Store in that location. “I have never met anyone like Don Shaw,” says Michael. “He’s a person with a unique blend of integrity and astute business skills.” The Snaids own three other Cinnamon Bear stores, two in Savannah and one on Hilton Head, but the Amelia Island location is larger than the others. “The extra space has allowed us to bring in well-known lines like Peter Millar menswear, Lampe Berger fragrance systems, and John Medeiros jewelry, in addition to our gourmet foods, toys, books, gifts, flags, candy, and our famous hand-dipped ice cream, available in 24 flavors,” says Michael.
Danny Swinton, the Hilton Head manager, agreed to move to Amelia Island and manage the new store. Michael realized how special Fernandina Beach was when he began hiring students for the store. “I was so impressed by the caliber of the students here,” says Michael. “They are reliable, polite, friendly, and smart – a credit to their community.” Michael and Lynne are very “hands on” when it comes to their stores, working side-by-side with their colleagues, six days a week. Cinnamon Bear Country Store is open seven days a week and offers shipping on everything. For more information, call (904) 432-7932 or visit www.cinnamonbearstores.com.
