Joy to the Children Needs Volunteers

Dec 10, 2014 02:00AM
Joy to the Children provides a Christmas Day party to financially disadvantaged children in Nassau County, including Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach. The 501c3 nonprofit needs volunteers for the following tasks: December 14 at 4 p.m. at Walmart in Yulee to shop for children on the list; December 19 at 2:30 p.m. at CubeSmart in Fernandina for gist transport from CubeSmart to Yulee Middle School to wrap all the presents; December 20 at 9 a.m. at Yulee Middle School to wrap the gifts; December 24 from noon to 5 p.m. for food transport (getting food from caterers to the event building); and December 25 at 11 a.m. for the celebration.

Joy to the Children is a non-profit with no paid staff or overhead, and all donations go straight to serving their guests. Each year the event averages 160 children, this year there are 50 families which consist of 157 children. Joy to the Children serves only children and their families from Nassau County, and the families are selected through 17 schools and service organizations. Agency lists are cross referenced to ensure that assistance is going to benefit as many families as possible.
