When Jason Hambrecht saw how difficult it was for people to stop smoking, he wanted to do something about it. “We all know people who struggle with nicotine addiction,” says Hambrecht, President and CEO of Construction Solutions Inc., a local engineering firm. “When I first heard about vaping, an alternative to smoking, I thought it would be a way to help family, friends, and others quit smoking,” says Hambrecht. He contacted his friend, Sean Reynosa, and shared his idea about a vape shop on Amelia Island. Hambrecht and his wife, Jenny, did their research, and Speakeasy Vaporium opened in August. The interior décor is based on a 1930s speakeasy. Vaping is the term for inhaling vapor through a vaporizer or electronic cigarette. Vapor is generated through a heating element, which warms the liquid and turns it into vapor, not smoke. The vapor is available in a wide variety of flavors. Some contain nicotine, some do not. Vaping allows smokers to cut back on their nicotine consumption slowly, and not suffer the usual withdrawal. “Even doctors locally have sent patients to the store as an opportunity to stop smoking,” says Reynosa, the store manager. “We’ve had numerous success stories already!” Clients are welcome to sample over 70 flavors before they purchase. Speakeasy holds social, informational events periodically, which also serve as a support group for those who are trying to give up smoking. For more information and store hours, visit 1925 South 14th Street, their Facebook page, or www.speakeasyvaporium.com.
