Welcome the new music director of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra! Courtney Lewis makes his debut as music director designate conducting Berlioz' orchestral showpiece, “Symphonie Fantastique”. Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Clarinetist Peter Wright performs Rossini's "Introduction, Theme and Variations" and a world premeire of a new work by composer/vocalist/educator Judith Cloud.

Symphonie Fantastique is a program symphony written by the French composer Hector Berlioz in 1830. It is an important piece of the early Romantic period, and is popular with concert audiences worldwide. The first performance was at the Paris Conservatoire in December 1830. The work was repeatedly revived after 1831 and subsequently became a favorite in Paris. “Introduction, Theme and Variations” is one of the premier showpieces of its time, a popular tune followed by variations allowing the clarinetist to show off tremendous technique and charm.

The performance will be held at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts on Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets visit
