Dinner and a Movie at Café Karibo

Aug 25, 2014 02:00AM
The grand finale of the Adult Summer Reading program will be Dinner and a Movie on August 28, 6 p.m., at Café Karibo. The featured movie is “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” starring Judy Dench, Celia Imrie, Bill Nighy, Ronald Pickup, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson, and Penelope Wilton. The actors portray a group of senior citizens moving into a retirement hotel in India, run by the young and eager Sonny, played by Dev Patel. The 2012 movie was based on the 2004 novel, “These Foolish Things” by Deborah Moggach.

Going along with the theme of the movie, Café Karibo will be serving up salad with ginger dressing, along with curry chicken and rice. A drawing for door prizes and Summer Reading Program prizes will be held. Participation in the program is not a requirement to attend.

Each year the Library System, with funding provided by the Friends of the Library, has sponsored activities for children, but encouraging lifelong reading at every stage in life helps individuals, families, and local economies succeed. “We feature this adult program because adults are role models for children. If we want our children to be life-long readers, they must see the adults in their lives read for fun,” says Dawn Bostwick, Director of the Nassau County Library System.

Literary Elements, the name of this year’s adult summer reading program, encouraged grown-ups to read all summer long. Combining the three elements of literacy — reading, writing, and listening — the program invited adults to read, write short reviews, and enter a final drawing. Dinner and a Movie is sponsored by the Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library and tickets are available for $25 at the library.
