Amelia Island Cycling Offers Organized Bike Trips

Jun 20, 2014 02:00AM
Every Thursday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 8:30 a.m., Amelia Island Cycling Club hosts organized bicycle rides in and around Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island. All rides begin at Main Beach and are open to cyclists of all abilities. Typically, there might be a faster groups and slower groups, so the club takes this into account. Riders are classified as A, (18-21 mph) B, (14-17 mph) C, (up to 14 mph) and S, (Social ride, speed of the slowest rider in the group.)

The ride is approximately 30 miles with rest stops along the way. The group loops back to the starting point at around 10 miles before continuing the remaining 20 miles of the route. This allows riders to go at their own speed and no one is required to go the entire 30 miles. Members of Amelia Island Cycling assure that no rider will be left behind. After the ride, cyclists may enjoy an optional lunch.

Bicycle helmets are mandatory as well as a bicycle in good working condition. Bicycle safety is an absolute must and will be repeated as a reminder before the start of all rides. For more information call Don Eipert at (904) 261-5160 or visit www.ameliaislandcycling.com.
