Amelia Islander

Walkin’ Nassau Cumberland Trip

May 28, 2014 02:00AM
If you love Cumberland Island, you’ll love it even more by visiting it with the fun folks of Walkin’ Nassau. The group hosts regular walking trips in and around Amelia Island, and on June 7, the group is planning an excursion to Cumberland Island. To participate, check in for the ferry in St. Marys, Georgia at 11:15 a.m. The ferry departs at 11:45 a.m. and returns at 2:45 p.m., or you may stay longer on the island and take the last ferry back at the end of the day.

To reserve your space, call the National Park Service at (912) 882-4335. The fee is $20, and the park user fee is $4. Bring bottled water, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, and/or lunch. There are no trash services on the island, so be prepared to pack out whatever you pack in. The walk is 3 miles, and the terrain can be somewhat rugged in places, so wear appropriate footwear. For more information email Jane Bailey at [email protected] or call (904) 261-9884.
