Amelia Islander

The Pirates are Coming!

Apr 25, 2014 02:00AM
On May 2, 3 and 4, Amelia Island will celebrate its own 51st Annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. Presented by Publix Supermarkets, the family friendly, free admission Shrimp Festival offers delicious shrimp prepared every way imaginable by 25 food booths all staffed and run exclusively by local Nassau County non-profit groups as fund-raisers.

The Shrimp Festival is more than food vendors - wear your walking shoes to visit over 300 fine artisan & crafters, 50 antique dealers, 25 Kid Fun Zone activities, live music on two stages, and lots of pirates, including its famous Pirate Parade. Amelia Island’s goodwill ambassadors to the world, members of the Fernandina Pirate’s Club, have always been the hit of the Shrimp Festival. Pirates played a major role in the settlement of Amelia Island and they're still around today. The Fernandina Pirates are a lively and active presence in town, during the Shrimp Festival, and year ‘round, and you never know where they will show up!
