Books Plus Moves to New Location

Apr 11, 2014 02:00AM
Books Plus, an icon on Centre Street for almost 25 years, has moved to their location at 1743-A South 8th Street. Owner Maggie Carter-de Vries is excited about the move-she and her staff of four are settling into their new digs and have big plans for the future of Books Plus.

Maggie began writing short stories while in high school, and over the years envisioned becoming an author, book store owner, or librarian. Now her dream has come true in more ways than one with the publication of not one, but two, books with another coming soon, in addition to her acquisition of Books Plus and their move to South 8th Street.

Maggie visited Amelia Island 25 years ago to spend the night at the Bailey House B&B and fell instantly in love with the miniature version of her birth place, Charleston, South Carolina. She purchased a home in the historic district within three months and raised her two children, Tania and Clife, in the community of an extended family. She is now the grandmother of her fishing buddy, Andrew, and continues to embrace the island as her adopted home.

Books Plus’ new location will offer a special book-trade room where you can bring in a book, and buy a book or barter for trade. Their book club meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. and it’s open to the public. Besides books, Books Plus offers cards, free gift wrap, coffee, and cookies. Coming up on April 26 is a Customer Appreciation Day. B sure to stop by for a great party and cook out!
