A new “A-list” hair experience has come to historic downtown Fernandina Beach: completely customized color and cuts, each done by a talented stylist with decades of experience and a great understanding of the latest techniques. Originally from Capetown, South Africa, Merle Sauer studied her craft under the tutelage of Vidal Sassoon in London. She ran her own successful salon in Atlanta before moving to Amelia Island nine years ago to start Hair by Merle, located next to Joe’s 2nd Street Bistro on South 2nd Street. She has been so busy she was unable to take on new clients—until she discovered Karen McCroskey.

“When you book a color and cut with us, you literally have the place to yourself,” Sauer explains. “I consult with you on your color and formulate exactly what you need. Karen is there to take care of your cut. You can get lunch brought in from one of the nearby restaurants and enjoy the special attention. It’s a trend you see in big cities, and we’re excited to offer it here.” McCroskey has 30 years of experience and a knack for great customer communication. “I’ve always been fascinated by hair,” says McCroskey, who still owns her salon in Ohio. “When I go out with my girlfriends and they point out someone with a great dress or cool shoes, I often haven’t even noticed because I have been looking at their haircuts!” You’ll get noticed in similar fashion after you pay a visit to this “dream team.” For more information, call Merle at (904) 583-5582 or Karen at (330) 224-1964.
