Oct 07, 2013 02:00AM
Among the moss-draped oaks and reflective lagoon at the Shops of the Omni Amelia Island Plantation, the 2nd Annual Amelia Island Wine Festival will be held on October 12, 2013. "We are very pleased to have the Amelia Farmer's Market signature event, The Amelia Wine Festival, at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation this year, where guests can stroll the Wine Walk as they sip this year's new wines, sample popular restaurant dishes, peruse artisan-crafted treasures and enjoy the farmers market,” says Jan Smith, festival coordinator. “We are pleased this year to offer guests the opportunity to support Micah's Place with the purchase of the official Amelia Wine Festival Tote Bag, Wine Bag, and their culinary book with all proceeds contributing to a worthy cause ending domestic violence in Northeast Florida.” Without a passport or jetlag, sample dozens of award-winning wines from the premier growing regions of Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Learn about the wines and wineries from wine industry representatives, sample some of the wines of Florida wineries, and purchase a bottle or case to prolong the pleasure long after you return home. Food tastings will be available from some of Amelia Island’s most popular local restaurants, as well. A wine ticket must be purchased for wine and food tasting privileges. In addition to the tastings, participants can shop along the Wine Walk, featuring artisan-crafted treasures from table art ware to functional pottery, handmade glass votives and vases, hand-turned rare wood vases and pepper mills, unique bottle stoppers and wine accessories, hand-painted stemware, and one-of-a-kind sterling silver and copper jewelry. The Amelia Island Wine Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Shops of the Omni Amelia Island Plantation, located at 6800 First Coast Highway. Ticket holders must be 21 years of age, and must provide proper I.D. Tasting tickets are $50 in advance, and include wine tasting privileges, food tasting privileges, and a commemorative wine glass for one guest. Tickets purchased at the gate are $60, cash only.
