Aug 21, 2013 02:00AM
If you’re dreaming of beach, brisket, and barbecue, Amelia Island is the place to be on August 23 and 24, for the Fourth Annual Southern Tailgate Cook-off. The event, which features more than 60 professional and backyard teams, is a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned event, and a fundraiser for the Gator Bowl Association, a non-profit organization whose primary charitable activities are focused on education and youth in the North Florida region. Bring your family, friends, and your biggest appetite to Main Beach, and enjoy great entertainment, including live music from national, regional, and local bands, all while experiencing the thrill of this incredible competition. Cheer on your favorite backyard barbecue team as they battle against other local teams in the Arlington Toyota Backyard Competition. And enjoy the flavors of some of the best barbecue and tailgate food in the country. The Great Southern Tailgate Cook-off is organized by the Amelia Island Convention and Visitors Bureau. This annual event brings professional teams from all over the country to compete for more than $20,000 in cash and prizes. A crowd favorite is the backyard team competition, where local amateur teams compete for over $1,000 in cash and prizes.
