Goin’ Coastal Barbecue Cook Off and Music Festival

May 31, 2013 08:28AM
The City of Fernandina Beach has been running a series of barbecue competitions since the Spring of 2009. The competitions started after event organizer Jay Robertson saw a show on TLC about cook-offs and thought that it would go over really well in the area. Six competitions and over 40 past participants later, cooking competitions have become a big draw in the area. It has also inspired the arrival of the Annual KCBS Great Southern Tailgate at Main Beach Park two years ago and the Georgia Barbecue Association’s first event in the state of Florida at Central Park in June. The City Barbecue Cook-offs offer a blend of good music and some of the area’s best BBQ, all at an affordable price.

This year will call for record numbers in participants and hopefully a record number of people coming out to enjoy the festivities.

On Saturday, June 8, the City is holding yet another barbecue and music event called Goin’ Coastal, which features a barbecue contest that begins at 10 a.m., and a music festival at 5:30 p.m. Both are held in Buccaneer Field at Central Park. Tickets for the concert are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. For more information, visit www.fbeachbbq.com.
