Fernandina Beach a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community

May 27, 2013 09:15AM
Fernandina Beach applied for designation as a Bicycle Friendly Community in 2011 and was awarded an honorable mention status. In May 2013, the City received an upgraded status of a Bronze Level Community.

The Bicycle Friendly Community Program inspires communities to improve conditions and opportunities for bicycling. This program provides incentives, hands-on assistance, and award recognition for communities that actively support bicycling. A Bicycle Friendly Community welcomes cyclists by providing safe accommodation for cycling and encouraging people to bike for transportation and recreation.

Each application to the Bicycle Friendly America program is reviewed by a panel of national bicycle experts and several local reviewers are consulted to share their on the ground perspective of the applicant. The City is currently working towards upgrading its status through a re-submittal application in 2013.

Join the city of Fernandina Beach for a special ceremony held May 30 at 5:30 p.m. at Main Beach Park. And bring your bicycle!
