Apr 05, 2013 02:00AM
The Beech Street Blues Band has been invited to join a myriad of the finest blues performers in the world, for Jacksonville Beach’s celebrated George’s Music Springing the Blues Festival this weekend. The band members, Mike Hawthorne, Jay MacPhearson, Jeff Malone, Dan Voll, and Ronnie Stoots, were asked to perform at the festival by founder Sam Veal, who heard them perform at the Amelia Island Blues Festival last year.

Malone, President of the Amelia Island Blues Festival, and committee member, Chief Hurley, were introduced to Veal by blues performer Roger “Hurricane” Wilson. It was like they had been friends for years. “Sam rolled out the red carpet for us, including VIP tickets and valuable information about running a festival” explained Jeff Malone. After catching several artist sets, Malone was invited to join Wilson on percussion. “It was great playing in front of hundreds of die-hard blues fans just having fun at the beach,” added Malone. “We are honored to be included at this year’s George’s Music Springing the Blues Festival.”

The band will perform their unique style of blues on day three of the festival, on the west stage at Jacksonville Beach, on April 7 at 1 p.m. Springing the Blues is held April 5, 6 and 7 at Seawalk Plaza. For more information about the festival, visit:
