Nassau County Extension Offers Ideas for Spring Planting

Mar 06, 2013 02:00AM
Spring is almost here, and many of us have already begun our seasonal planting and landscaping, save for a few chilly days here and there. But Daylight Savings Time begins on March 10, so that’s when we like to use that extra hour to work in the yard. We are not always the best gardeners but have recently become very dependent on the UF Extension to help us choose the right plants for our yard.

Located on Pages Dairy Rd. in Yulee, Nassau County Extension has a Demonstration Garden, a patch of earth tucked away off A1A where you can see some of the best seasonal and native plants that grow well in our area. The plantings include various grasses, trees, groundcovers, tropicals, shade plants, palms and even roses. The garden can be visited anytime, and is self-touring with plant signage. The garden has been installed by Nassau County Horticulturists, Master Gardeners, 4-H Youth and community volunteers.

The Extension office also offers many classes and guided tours centered around their beautiful garden. For more information about the garden call them at (904) 879-1019.
