Resolve to See a Movie

Dec 31, 2012 02:00AM
Most of us have some down time over the holidays and this is the best time of the year to go see a movie. We’re pretty lucky to have Carmike Amelia Island 7 Theatre located smack dab in the middle of our community, just minutes from where most of us live. December brings out the best films of the season and if you didn’t get to see a movie on Christmas Day (which seems to have become a new American tradition) there’s plenty of time to see one this week. Carmike is open additional hours whenever the kids are out of school, and yes, you can go see a movie there before noon on most days.

Carmike is also a friendly, safe neighborhood theater, and I see many families dropping their kids off at one theater while the parents take in a second movie right next door. Tuesday is discount day, where tickets, popcorn, and soda are all on sale. Our favorite picks are Lincoln, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Les Miserables, and Monsters, Inc in 3-D for the little ones. Two other places we like to watch movies are the Hollywood Theaters in the River City Marketplace, and SunRay Cinema at Five Points in Jacksonville, where you can order “real” food and see an artsy or foreign film now and then.
