Master Naturalist Program

Dec 10, 2012 02:00AM
Three Nassau County Sierra Club members, Karen Klima, Eric Titcomb, and Winifred Stephenson are participating in the Florida Master Naturalist Program offered by the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension Service. The FMNP is an adult education program developed by the University of Florida and provided by many Extension offices and participating organizations throughout the state of Florida.

The mission of the FMNP is to promote awareness, understanding, and respect of Florida’s natural world among Florida’s citizens and visitors. The instructors teach the students about Florida’s environment by using science-based information and interpretive techniques that prepare students to share their knowledge with others.

There are three basic modules: Coastal Systems, Upland Habitats, and Freshwater Wetlands, as well as other special topics. For those who are interested in expanding their knowledge of Florida’s ecosystems, visit the Master Naturalist web site at www.masternaturalist.ifas.ufl.edu/about/ or contact Christina Nelson at (904) 583-2330.
