Only 2.5 percent of the world’s water is fresh water, and less than 1 percent of the fresh water is useable. Florida’s growing population is putting greater stress on this essential and limited resource. Using water wisely now means saving money on water bills and protecting the water supply for future generations.
Some tips for saving water are as follows:
Take shorter showers and install a low-flow shower head.
When washing dishes use tubs instead of running the water.
Run your dishwasher only when it’s completely full.
Wash only full loads of laundry.
Check toilets for leaks.
Landscape with drought-tolerant plants and mulch to retain moisture.
Group plants together based on similar water needs.
Make sure water from sprinklers falls on grass, not on paved areas.
Don’t run sprinklers on a timer – only water lawns when needed.
