Osprey Village retirement community recently gave away cash prizes to four winners of the community’s Silver Pen Writing Competition in a recent awards ceremony. After the ceremony the winners and their families enjoyed a reception with community members and staff. Osprey Village started the scholarship in 2012 with two purposes in mind. The primary goal was to help local high school students obtain their collegiate dreams through financial assistance. The second motive was to help the students consider viewpoints of multiple generations through writing on topics relating to older and younger generations.

The 20 essays were judged by the residents Joan Phelps, JoAnne Gallo, Norma Ceraolo, and Jo Merman, who chose the four winning essays. 2017 winners include: Lauren Kilbur, first place, Katie M. Rojas, second place, Haley B. Cox, third place, and Faith I. Leipau, fourth place.

Osprey Village is a vibrant retirement community located next to the beach at Amelia Island Plantation. Their mission is to improve the quality of life of seniors through wellness and services to allow them to stay independent in their own homes for as long as possible.
